CHESTERFIELD – It had been five years since the South had earned a win in the 804 All-Star Game.

They were due and knew it, soundly defeating the North 106-90 Saturday night at Matoaca High School.

An 8-point halftime lead ballooned to 20 quickly as the South’s athleticism and size underneath was too much.

Five South All-Stars reached double figures, including three paint monsters: game MVP Du’Vaughn Maxwell (18 points, eight boards, four blocks), Derrick Cates (15 points, 11 boards) and J’Quan Daily (11 points).

The advantage got as big as 27 before the North started hitting some 3-pointers it desperately needed to win.

Travis McKie led the North with 18 points, Kevin Gill 16 and Robert Thurston 11. Jake McGee put in nine points in only a first-half of action.

Sean Brown had an outstanding game with 16 points, 12 in the first half. Sean Armstrong chipped in with 13 points for the South.
