Tyre Desmore is missing a vowel.

Tyre Does-more is more like it.

The senior sparked Petersburg’s full-court 2-2-1 press as the Crimson Wave dispatched of its 26 straight victim, this time John Marshall, 77-70 in the Central Region semifinals Friday night.

The Crimson Wave trailed 46-41 with 2:01 remaining in the third period when coach Bill Lawson III input the pressure.

A slew of Jayem turnovers later, Petersburg led 50-46 going into the fourth period, a 9-0 bolt.

John Marshall got as close as three points, 68-65, but Petersburg knocked in free throws late to close it.

Petersburg received 28 points and eight boards from DuVaughn Maxwell, 15 from Kevin Green, 12 from Frank Mason and nine each from Desmore (six steals) and Spain (eight boards).

The Justices got 20 points, 10 boards and three blocks from Travis McKie. Willie Mangum had 16 points, 14 from Devonte Payne off the bench and 10 each from Tahir Little and Davaughn Lampkin.

A feeling of disrespect carried Monacan to a 20-win season.

Isn’t it ironic that Monacan’s pregame behavior gave homestanding John Marshall the same thoughts?

The Justices were fueled by the Chiefs’ exuberance, and took it out on their visitors for a 93-68 victory in the Central Region quarterfinals Tuesday evening in a packed, toasty gym at John Marshall.

“They were in the back screaming all loud and I felt [disrespected],” said JM PG Tahir Little, who scored 19 points and controlled the game with his quickness and penetration. “This is our house. We protect our house.”

The Justices won every quarter, forcing Monacan timeouts it seemed like every minute as Chiefs coach Bill Roberson looked for answers.

A hot start by Willie Mangum (eight straight points to start the game, 18 total) put the Justices off to a good start. Little scored in the lane to force a Monacan timeout with 3:13 left, up 37-20.

Then Monacan’s Derrick Cates picked up his third foul on a Travis McKie drive, a huge loss for Monacan.

McKie had his way inside with 30 points and 14 rebounds as Monacan cut the lead to 15 at one point but would get no closer.

Sean Armstrong led Monacan with 22 points.
